Terms of Service
The agreement between you and SpendSense.
These Terms of Service govern your use of SpendSense, including the web and mobile applications, the AI features, and any data syncing performed through Plaid. Please read them carefully.
Last updated: April 19, 2026
Acceptance of these terms
- By creating a SpendSense account, connecting a financial institution, or otherwise using the SpendSense web or mobile application (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use SpendSense.
The Service
- SpendSense is a personal finance tool that aggregates accounts and transactions (via Plaid), categorises spending, helps you budget, plan, and review recurring activity, and surfaces AI-generated summaries of your financial pace.
- SpendSense is not a bank, a broker-dealer, a money transmitter, a tax preparer, a financial advisor, or an investment adviser. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.
- Balances, transactions, and projections are informational. They may lag the source institution, be miscategorised, or contain errors. Always verify critical figures with your bank before acting on them.
Your account
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your SpendSense credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You must provide accurate information during sign-up and keep it up to date.
- You must not share your account, sell access to it, or use it on behalf of another person without authorisation.
- Notify us immediately at support@getspendsense.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
Plaid and connected institutions
- SpendSense uses Plaid Inc. ("Plaid") to connect to your financial institutions. By connecting an institution, you authorise Plaid to access your account information on your behalf and to share it with SpendSense.
- Your institution login credentials are handled by Plaid under Plaid's own terms and privacy policy — SpendSense never receives or stores them.
- You can disconnect institutions from within SpendSense, through Plaid, or through the institution itself. Once disconnected, SpendSense will stop syncing new data from that institution.
Acceptable use
- You may not use SpendSense to conduct fraud, launder money, evade taxes, or violate any law.
- You may not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, rate-limit-bypass, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities outside of a responsible-disclosure channel.
- You may not upload or connect data that you do not have the right to process.
- You may not use SpendSense to harass, defame, or otherwise harm others.
Fees and subscriptions
- If SpendSense offers paid plans, pricing is presented at checkout and in the Settings → Subscription area.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
- All fees are non-refundable except where required by law or explicitly stated otherwise.
Intellectual property
- SpendSense, including its branding, design, source code, and copy, is owned by SpendSense and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property law.
- You retain ownership of the data you or your institutions provide through the Service. You grant SpendSense a limited licence to process that data solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
AI-generated content
- SpendSense uses large language models to generate summaries, coaching copy, and category suggestions. These outputs are informational, can be wrong, and should not be relied on for financial, tax, or legal decisions.
- You are responsible for reviewing AI output before acting on it.
Disclaimers
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpendSense disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- SpendSense does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from security incidents.
Limitation of liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpendSense will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the Service.
- Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 50.
Termination
- You may stop using SpendSense and delete your account at any time from Settings.
- We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continued service would create a security or compliance risk.
- On termination, the data-deletion process described in the Privacy Policy applies.
Governing law and disputes
- These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
- Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved through binding individual arbitration on a non-class basis, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual-property or security matters.
Changes
- We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be announced with at least 15 days' notice via email or in-app notification. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
